Ask God for the Opportunity to Be of Service to Others

2 Mins read

One of the most important aspects of being a disciple of Christ is to be of service to others. One of the most exciting aspects of about service is that it can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Perhaps you have always thought of ministry as something that involves standing up on a platform on a Sunday morning and leading worship or sharing the Gospel.

Maybe your idea of service involves giving up everything and going overseas to serve as a missionary. While all of those are certainly examples of being of service to others, God uses His people to meet the needs of others in seemingly ordinary ways every day. Today, ask God to open doors for you so you can be of service to others in His name.

Pray These Verses

Acts 20:34-35 (NIV)
You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Romans 12:1 (NIV)
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship.

Luke 6:38 (NIV)
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Pray This Prayer

Heavenly Father, I know that one of the most important parts of following You is serving others. I don’t know if I will ever share the Gospel with a remote village on the other side of the world. I don’t know that I will ever stand on a platform and lead people in worship or teach Your Word to a crowd.

However, I know that there are countless ways to serve others, and in turn, serve You that are available to me every day. Today, I ask You only to present me with an opportunity to supply the needs of the people around me.

I know that giving goes far beyond money, and even if the opportunities that I have don’t involve monetary donations, help me to find ways that I can offer myself as a living sacrifice to You. I know that if I give to others, You will bless me. I do not ask for the chance to be a blessing so I can become blessed. Instead, I simply want to fulfill my role in Your Kingdom. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the chance to serve You by serving others. Thank You for giving me the means to be a blessing to other people. I know that doing so will allow them to see You. In Christ’s name, Amen.
