Asking God for Comfort in a Time of Grief

2 Mins read

Try as we may, there is no way for us to escape grief while we are living in this fallen world. There is nothing more painful than losing a loved one to sickness, tragedy, or through any other means. While we view the concept of death as a permanent, we can rest in the promise that God has promised a resurrection for those who have passed on while believing in Him. Today, if you’re experiencing the pain associated with the loss a friend, family member, or loved one, allow the Holy Spirit to comfort you.

Pray These Verses
Psalm 34:17-18 (NIV)
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

John 11:25-26 (NIV)
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-15 (NIV)
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not certainly precede those who have fallen asleep.

Pray This Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I find it hard to even make it through my day because of the amount of pain that I’m feeling. You know how much I loved the person who I have lost, but I know that You love them more. I also know that You love me, and that You are close to me in the middle of the most painful moment of my life. I need Your help to get through this. The grief that I’m experiencing is debilitating, and I’m not sure where to go next. With that in mind, I come to You. I know that I can cry out to You with the promise that You hear me and are close to me in my brokenhearted state. I believe that You are the Resurrection and the Life, and that there will come a day when I will see my loved one again. I rest in this promise that there will be a resurrection, and that my life will once again be complete. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of eternal life. I know that death may hurt on this side of eternity, but I am thankful that this side isn’t all there is. Thank You for your comfort while I’m here and the promise of eternity with the loved ones who have gone before me. In Christ’s name, Amen.
