A Prayer for Increased Accountability

2 Mins read

Accountability is one of the most difficult spiritual principles that we have to deal with. None of us like to be told that we’re wrong. No one likes to be told that they’re “missing the mark” or “coming up short” in our pursuit of a Godly lifestyle.

However, without accountability, we would never know when we’re not meeting God’s standards for our lives. While His grace covers us in the times when we don’t handle things the right way, it is accountability that causes us to recognize our need for grace.

Today, pray for accountability in your own life. No, it won’t be easy, but it is most definitely worth it.

Pray These Verses:

Romans 14:11-12 (NIV)
It is written: “’As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

Galatians 5:25-26 (NIV)
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

James 5:15-16 (NIV)
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Pray This Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that accountability is a difficult concept, as I never like being told that I’m not living up to the standard that You have set for me. Receiving correction is hard, but I know that without correction, I run the risk of standing before you unable to give a good account of the life that I have lived.

I know that there will come a day when every knee bows and every tongue confesses that You are the Living God. However, on that day, I will also be required to give an account of the choices that I have made and the actions that I have taken. I am living by Your Spirit, and I know that the Holy Spirit is one of the most important aspects of maintaining accountability.

Through the presence and power of Your Spirit, show me the areas that I need to improve. Bring people into my life who can help hold me accountable and let me do the same for them. We are all trying to life lives that are pleasing to You, and that cannot happen without accountability. In Christ’s name I ask these things, Amen.

Thank God:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit that serves to keep me accountable to the truths found in Your Word. Thank You for caring so much about my soul that You inhabit my body so that I know when I miss the mark. Thank You for the people in my life who can help keep me accountable. In Christ’s name, Amen.
