Defying the Odds to Succeed

5 Mins read

We always focus on living a purposeful life by focusing on our dreams and goals. Therefore we set targets and plan on how to achieve each in the process. We are optimistic that things will always turn well in our favor, as optimism is an essential life value to every individual. But sometimes, things don’t turn out as expected, and we experience failures.

We may feel discouraged by this, get disappointed, and even feel tempted to quit. However, when we set our minds to acknowledge that failures are part of success and always be ready for such surprises, we can rise and wade against all the waves and obstacles of life till we achieve our goals.

Therefore the best thing to handle disappointment will always be to learn from it to be better and not quit.

Failing Does Not Make You a Failure

Many successful people we read and hear about experienced failure in some instances in their life. However, they did not allow failure to define them. The same case with us; when we experience negativity in life, we should not let it define us. Instead, it is always good to dust off and continue pursuing our goals and dreams until we achieve them.

In the book of 2 Corinthians 6:4, we as the servants of God are advised to embrace endurance in distress and hardships. This means we should be prepared for the uncertainties and ready to handle them continually. So when we experience difficulties in life, the best thing is to endure and focus on the goals until we achieve them.

We are winners, not quitters, so whatever obstacle or challenge we experience, the best option is to keep going.

You Are Never Alone

Being alone may come in two ways, feeling like you are the only one failing while others are winning or feeling like you are on your own. However, it is good to acknowledge that most iconic people we know had part of their life where they encountered failures but became resilient until they achieved their goals.

Consequently, in our success journey, God is the one who directs our steps, lights our path, and leads us to our purpose. This means that when we grow weary, get discouraged, feel lost, and become helpless, he always helps us to overcome every situation.

Therefore, in everything we do, we are assured of overcoming every obstacle as God is our strength. Isaiah 43:2, the bible reminds us that God is with us even when we are passing through waters or fire, and they will not overwhelm us.

Win From Victory

In most scenarios where we experience failure, we forget how far we have come and the challenges we have overcome. We only see the instances where we fail and get blinded beyond seeing our strengths. We instead take blames and perceive the situation to be stronger than us.

However, if we can just flashback to past life experiences and see the battles we have won, it would always be easy for us to rise and face every disappointment with a refreshed mindset. It is, therefore, reasonable to encourage ourselves with the battles won and lay a strategy to win even the most challenging ones.

With this, we can acknowledge the power of our strengths instead of always seeing weaknesses. In the book of 1 Samuel 17:36, David used his past victories of killing the lion and the bear as a motivation to kill Goliath, and he won the battle. Therefore strengths can be drawn from our past victories and not only focusing on the failure itself.

Planning and Committing Our Plans to God

After failing, it is always to use that as a learning experience and plan a new strategy to handle the situation. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us to commit all our plans to the Lord, and he will make them succeed.

Some may wonder why they fail even after committing the previous plans to the Lord. But sometimes, this may come to us to help us refine our strategy, approach, and objectives and align them better with the path towards achieving our goals.

Therefore it is good to know success journey requires a lot of reinvention and the development of new plans in the process. Some of these circumstances may appear to be against us, but when we have all the plans in the hands of God, we should always believe He might be redirecting us and acknowledge that all things will work for good to those who believe (Romans 8:28).

Acknowledging the Will of God in Our Lives

We always pray that thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven in the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:10).Jesus also demonstrates this during his tribulation by praying the will of God to be done (Luke 22:42).

This means that there is always hat we wish to happen in our lives and the will of God in our lives. This means that we find ourselves in some situations that we cannot even understand, but they are essential and related to the purpose. When we trust and believe in God, he constantly guides and directs our steps.

Therefore in every situation, including the disappointing ones, it is good to know that God has a plan for us, a plan not for disaster but peace and for future and hope (Jeremiah 29:11). This means that everything that happens when it is in God’s plan concerning our lives will ultimately yield a positive outcome.

Avoid Getting Stuck

To overcome disappointments calls for always having a way to deal with them. Some situations push us to be better and more robust and getting stuck only delays us from achieving the set goals. God always wants us to arise and continue with the journey.

When Moses died, God instructed Joshua to arise and lead the children of Israel to the Promised Land (Joshua 1:2).

Therefore, dwelling in a disappointing situation is always ungodly, and the best thing is to keep moving, trusting God in all the situations because He is always there to guide us.

Principles of Overcoming Disappointment

As believers, some factors guide us in developing an overcoming attitude. They help us get past all the failures and uncertainties of life and keep our heads high until we achieve our goals.

They include:

Being Passionate

Go for what you want, and don’t stop until you achieve it. Maintaining a positive outlook is also essential, even when things are difficult. This doesn’t mean pretending everything is perfect when it’s not – instead, it means looking for the good in every situation and believing that things will eventually work out in your favor. When you have a positive outlook, you’ll be more likely to take risks and push yourself, which is essential for success.

Staying Focused on Your Goals

You can be easily discouraged when things don’t go according to plan, but if you stay focused, you’ll be more likely to succeed. Remind yourself of what you’re working towards and why it’s important to you. This will keep you motivated in tough experiences.

Confidence

Fear is the thief of our joy. It stops us from unleashing our potential but leads to losing focus and getting distracted from our goals instead. Romans 8:37 gives us the confidence that we are more than conquerors.

Pray This Prayer

Lord, I know that all things work together for good. I believe in your plans for my life, and I know you’re my strength in my weaknesses. I pray for the strength to face all the challenges that may come in my life and overcome them.

I pray you, Lord Almighty, to continually direct my steps so that I may never deviate from your purpose in my life. When I grow weary, remind me that you are always with me, and I am never alone.

Thank you for always promising to be by my side till the end, and thank you for always assuring me that if I believe and trust in you, I will never be put into shame. I pray that I may continue living a purposeful life as you bring to accomplishment the good work in me. I trust you and surrender all my worries, fears, and disappointments.

I believe you will always guide me and get me through the tough times for your glory. This is my prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.
