Moving Past the Lies of the Enemy Through Prayer

3 Mins read

Each day that you wake up, there are two voices vying for primary billing in your life. The voice that you choose to listen to has a direct impact on how you see yourself, how you relate to others, and even how you view God. On the one hand, the voice of your Father constantly calls out to you.

He reminds you of the truths found in His Word. He constantly calls you into a closer relationship with Him, reminding you of your worth. He loves you so much that He sent His Son into the world to die for you. He raised His Son back to life so you could be fully reconciled to Him.

On the other hand, the voice of the enemy constantly looks for opportunities to convince you that you simply won’t ever be good enough.

No matter how good of a parent you are, Satan’s voice tells you that you’re just not good enough. No matter how good of a spouse you are, the lies of the enemy sneak in, trying to tell you that your partner would be better off with someone else. The most dangerous lie that Satan tries to pass off as truth is that you aren’t really a child of God.

Why would God love you? After all the wrongdoings in your past, would the King of Kings and Lord of Lords really invest in your future? He constantly looks for ways to remind you of your worst moments in an attempt to convince you that you are defined by your failures instead of being defined by your Father.

There are several ways that you can move past the lies of the enemy. Filling yourself with Scripture allows you to be ready to refute every lie that he speaks to you. Surrounding yourself with Godly people who can remind you of the truth of God’s Word, highlighting your strengths, and helping you to move past your weaknesses is another great option.

However, it could easily be argued that the greatest weapon that we have against the deceptions of the enemy is prayer. When you pray, God stops everything He is doing just to listen to you.

When you feel like you are being overwhelmed by the voice of the enemy, run to your Heavenly Father in prayer. He is eager to listen to you, and when you commit yourself to listening to Him, you can overcome the deceptions of Satan.

Psalm 95:6-9 (NIV)
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice, “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness, where you ancestors tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did.

John 8:44-45 (NIV)
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.

John 10:14-16 (NIV)
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-just as the Father knows me and I know the Father-and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

Pray This Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am so tired of feeling like the loudest voice in my life is the voice of my enemy. I know his voice when I hear it, as it only reminds me of every negative thing about me. It tells me that I’m not really Your child, even when I know in my heart that I am.

It tells me that I’m not good enough for my friends and my family members, even though I know that You have placed those people around me. Help me to find my refuge in You. You are my Good Shepherd, and I know Your voice. Help me to follow Your voice and Your voice alone. I will no longer be bound by the father of lies, but instead, I will listen to my Father in Heaven.

I am listening for Your voice, and my heart is softened to receive Your Word. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God

Heavenly Father, thank You for speaking a greater truth over my life. Thank You for the truth I find in Your Word that is stronger than any lie that the enemy speaks to me.

Thank You for loving me, even when I was at my most unlovable point. Thank You for the fact that my value is not found in the things I’ve done or anything I could ever do, but in the gift that You gave me when You allowed Your Son to die in my place. Thank You for raising Him again so I could experience victory in every area of my life.

In Christ’s name, Amen.
